Her approach
Dance is her love, dance is her worship and Dance is the divine light of her life. For Dr Malabika Mitra, Dance is the reflection of the journey of life exploring the spiritual tranquility of our inner world and the beauty around us.
For a traditional Indian Artist, Artistic creation is the supreme means of realizing the universal being, elevating ones soul and experiencing Devine Bliss. In its root form under the shelter of the temples, Kathak was mainly expressional dance to tell religious stories from Epics and Puranas through songs and dance and was a strong medium of mass communication of moral truths with a great social value.
They had a vast repertoire with Spiritual, Educative, Entertaining, Social and moral Values covering the whole range of Human Emotions and Expressions. Most of those beautiful items are works of great literary value and are rarely seen in modern performances of Kathak. In this era of emotional restlessness, intellectual anarchy and moral devaluation, Dr Malabika Mitra has successfully revived a refined and modified version of the ancient “Katha Vachan™ Temple Art with its value oriented education system in present day Kathak Repertoire.
